3 - 1 = 2

Several of my user bios and similar online documents state that I have three jobs. Starting in June, that will no longer be true. I accepted the offer to use all of my allowable hours (as a part-timer) at the VB campus. It would have been unwise not to: more money, less driving/gas/wear-and-tear on my car, more hours working as a librarian (as opposed to a paraprofessional). It's the smart option.

And while I'm almost certain nobody from my Portsmouth position reads this blog, I thought it would be nice to say, on the record, that I appreciate every one of them and all they've helped me with for the past two years.

Stupid Human Tricks

I usually ignore those graphics that tell you it's impossible to lick your elbow, or whatever the latest thing is that you supposedly can't do, then you try it and look stupid. But sometimes, if they're novel enough, and sound either totally legit or completely ridiculous, I'll try them.

I did not expect this one to work.

I'm sure there are some people who can overcome this and keep their foot going in clockwise circles while they draw a 6, but I am not one of those people. Fascinating!

Moving Books

We started moving the books out of the VB campus library today!

Packing them up into the truck

Row of carts in the reference section

They got about half the books out of the library today, so I imagine the other half will go tomorrow. The books are moving this week, but we're staying in the building until August. Students and patrons will be able to request books that have moved, and we'll get them within 24 hours (so they're still accessible if you use the catalog... the people who like to peruse the shelves will just have to suck it up and use the public library, I suppose).

week-end (n.) 1. the end of a week, especially the period of time between Friday evening and Monday morning; 2. the period as extended by one or more holidays, days off, or the like, that immediately precede or follow; 3. any two-day period taken or given regularly as a weekly rest period from one's work.

So apparently this "weekend" thing is something most people are used to. It's almost a foreign concept to me at this point. I didn't have a single day off for all of April.

This weekend is the only one in May that I'm working. The next two weekends are during intersession (between semesters) so the library will be closed for that (we have shorter hours during intersession) and the weekend after that is Memorial Day weekend, so we're closed for the holiday.

The first weekend will be planned out for me: Birk's birthday, Lori's birthday, Mother's Day. Easy.

The second and third weekends, I hope to do some fun things (particularly with my Little Visitor Clyde) and remember what it means to RELAX.

And then the regular summer hours begin, which means I'll still have Sundays off!

And sure, this is all pretty cool, what with the spare time and all, but less hours means less money, and weekends are my best money... so that is kind of a bummer. But it's only for one month.
